General Questions

I am used to taking care of other people, why would I need therapy for myself?

We all go through challenging situations in life. While you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you have faced before, it is perfectly okay to seek out extra support when you need it. If you are currently wondering if you should seek counseling, that is probably the best indicator that you should. Trust your instincts.

What is therapy like?

Every therapy session is unique and caters to each individual and their specific goals. During therapy sessions, we will work through the concerns and issues in your life while providing you with the tools to continue this process even outside of the therapy sessions. A session last 50 to 60 minutes. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth.

How often does therapy last, and how often do I need to come?

The length and frequency of therapy depends on the presenting problem and goals of therapy. Most importantly, it depends on you. At the onset of treatment I will prescribe a specific timeline but I think it is best for us to think about limitations on your time as well as your desire to start slow or go deeply quickly.

Do you take insurance?

No, at this time we do not accept insurance but we will provide an invoice for services which will allow you to be reimbursed by your insurance company. Please contact your insurance company to get details on reimbursement rates.

How much do you charge for your services?

My rate is $185 per 60-minute session.

Children

Why should I work with you instead of an insurance assigned therapist?

There are many reasons to chose a private therapist instead of an insurance assigned therapist.  The most compelling is control. You will have more control over your privacy, your choice of therapist and ability to collaborate on your treatment path.

What if my child already has a therapist would you still be able to work with us?

Yes, I will still work with your family. It would be best to avoid assigning more than one therapist to your child but having a separate therapist to work with your family or coach you is ideal.

I don’t want to make things worse on my child, will therapy make him/her worse?

Ignoring the past will not erase it. The hard truth is that a traumatic experience can change the brain, body, and belief of a child. Ignoring past trauma can cause more damage. Even at a young age of 3 months, our children can engage in healing that will change the trajectory of their developmental future.

What if my child's mother/father doesn’t want my child in therapy?

It is always preferred to have both parents consent to their child’s treatment if they both share custody. 3 options: 1.) Ask for a notarized affidavit from the other parent giving permission for treatment or 2.)  Engaging in coaching with me to support your child’s healing through you. 3.) Allow me to have a conversation with the other parent and explain treatment parameters.
